You only need to look at our Cathedral to see the skill that built a medieval classic. 800 years on and we feel it is still important to champion our artisans – whether they make jewellery, clothes or sausages!
We encourage and celebrate independent businesses that trade in Salisbury provenance, in the craft and care that are the signatures of our city.
Here are some of the handcrafted gems you'll only find in Salisbury.

Head to the award-winning Henderson’s Artisan Bakery in Salisbury’s historic Market Place for breads, buns, cakes and pastries handmade on site. Try their classic sourdough, rustic white or focaccia loaves or, for something a little sweeter, their Chelsea Buns have been called ‘the best in town’ by many happy customers.
Also located on the Market Place is Reeve The Baker, another independent bakery known for its quality and award-winning sourdough. Great for a takeaway lunch with freshly handmade sandwiches, pasties, sausage rolls and popular cheese straws. It is always worth popping in to see what new flavours they have on offer, like salted caramel Biscoff biscuits or wild garlic and Emmental sourdough.
At The Cake Forge you won’t know whether to eat their bakes or keep them as a piece of art! For over ten years, Dan 'the cake man' Mills has built a strong reputation in Salisbury for creating incredible cakes for those who want to celebrate in style. From birthdays to anniversaries and weddings, the designs never fail to impress, and neither does the taste.

At Shirley Snells they handcraft bouquets of flowers that will bring a smile to any face. The independent florist uses fresh flowers that arrive every day (sometimes up to three times a day) from all around the world. None of their work is mass produced so you’ll be guaranteed an original.
We realise Roly’s Fudge Pantry on the High Street is not an independent shop, but Salisbury's branch is owned by two local residents and they’ve got a Stonehenge made out of fudge in their window - you definitely won’t find that anywhere else! They also handmake their deliciously sweet treats in the heart of the city in full view for you to see. From sea salt to banana and cherry bakewell – there are many unusual flavours to try.
Salisbury has a strong community of artists. From art work, to sculptures and jewellers there is much that is crafted right here in the city.
If you want to see artists at work head to Fisherton Mill. It is the largest independent art gallery in the south west, plus, there are a dozen artists' studios where you can see skilled craftspeople at work. From fashion to fine art and jewellery you will get glimpse of how they create their designs. And, if you really want to delve a little deeper, there are also workshops to help you create your own masterpieces.
