Salisbury's Weekend What's On 13/14 November

Our Traditional Original city is packed with creativity and imagination this weekend. 

The illuminating Sarum Lights, unique Christmas gifts, live music and a touch of artistic flare – what will you experience in Salisbury? 

Here are our weekend highlights, 13th and 14th November: 

An illuminating not-to-be-missed show!  

Sarum Lights has returned to Salisbury Cathedral this week, immersing the building, inside and out, in a sound and light experience. The 2021 show is completely new, with a Heaven and Earth theme this year. It’s one for the whole family – all ages will love it! 

Tickets for the shows must be bought in advance, you cannot buy them on the door. Last year many of the shows were sold out, so don’t miss your opportunity to be there this year, book now! Sarum Lights finishes on Saturday 13th November.

Christmas is coming 

If you’re looking for unique gifts for loved ones this Christmas, you can find them this weekend in Salisbury.  

Courtyard Christmas Makers Market returns to Fisherton Mill on Saturday 13th November and will run for five Saturdays up to Christmas. Each market day features six individual stalls offering original handcrafted fare and a range of quirky gifts. This weekend the featured artists are:  

  • Suzanne Ball Jewellery 
  • The Pure Image Works 
  • Clare Davie Designs 
  • Handmade by Mollie & Me 
  • Fifi & Fris 
  • Rachel Reynolds 

Fisherton Mill’s Courtyard Christmas Makers Market is on 10am to 3pm – Saturday only. 

Also back this weekend, and offering access to Salisbury’s creative community, is Art in the Arches.  

Salisbury Arts Centre is inviting Plain Arts artists once again to display and sell their work over two weekends in November. It’s a fantastic way to meet and talk to local artists and a brilliant opportunity to buy art created locally. Art in the Arches runs Saturday 13th and 27th November, 10am to 3pm. It’s free and no booking require. 

For more Christmas gift options, head to the United Reformed Church on Fisherton Street. Their festive Christmas Bazaar features cakes, crafts, jewellery, books, cards, and a raffle and games for children. 10am to 2pm, Saturday 13th November. 

Imagination comes to life in two new exhibitions 

Linescapes is the new exhibition which has launched at Salisbury Art Centre this week. It explores the line of the landscape and the visible changes to the natural environment occurring through human and non-human influence. The exhibition is free to explore and features work by contemporary artists Carolyn Marr, Frances Marr, Alexandra Hoare, Sue Kelly and Nancye Church. Running until 18th December. 

If you are heading down to the Linescapes exhibition you can also see George Gammer’s photographic series 45(A) displayed on the Altar Wall at the Arts Centre until 4th December. 

Gallery 21 also plays host to new exhibition this week, 'Wild Beauty’. From Saturday 13th November, you’ll be able to see work created by one of UK’s most sought-after artists; Kimberley Harris. Kim’s highly desired oil paintings of wildflower meadows are simply breathtaking. The exhibition will run until 27th November, but there is also a special Meet the Artist event on Saturday 13th. Call him Al....? 

Paul Simon is a musician loved by millions of music fans, and one of those who have taken him to their heart is singer-songwriter Gary Edward Jones. In this show – The Paul Simon Story – Gary not only recites the music of one of his idols, but also tells the unique story of Paul Simon combining visuals, stage design and, of course… the music. 

With classic ballads like The Sound of Silence, America and Kathy’s Song, to the more upbeat Wristband and The Boxer to the much-loved Bridge Over Troubled Water. The show will have you both reliving and rediscovering these great songs again. There are limited tickets available to the performance on Saturday 13th November at the Salisbury Playhouse.
