Salisbury's Weekend What's On 16/17 October
It’s a big weekend in Salisbury, as the Charter Fair rolls into the city centre.
There’s also the world premiere of The Lemon Table at Salisbury Playhouse, and lots of fantastic live music to lift the spirits.
Here are some of the what’s on highlights in Salisbury we think you should experience this weekend, 16th and 17th October:
All the fun of the fair!
Roll up, roll up – Salisbury's Charter Fair returns to the Market Place this Sunday, 17th October! Thrill seekers will be able to enjoy popular rides including the waltzer, ghost train, big wheel and hook-a-duck for four days as the fair takes its place is in the city centre once again. This year, nearly all rides will cost just £2 a go until 6pm, with juvenile rides £2 at all times.
The Fair will open from 2pm until 9pm on Sunday 17th October, and then 11am until 10pm Monday through to Wednesday.
The Charter Fair has been an annual event in Salisbury since 1227, making it one of the oldest in the country. Don't miss the fun!
The force is strong with this one....
The world premiere of Julian Barnes’ The Lemon Table is being performed at Salisbury Playhouse until 23rd October. The darkly funny play stars award-winning actor, Ian McDiarmid, who’s best known for his role in the Star Wars movie franchise. Ian puts in a stellar performance in this one-man show which celebrates a love of music, live performance, and life itself. Book now before tickets run out.
Anniversary celebration concert
Head to Salisbury Cathedral this Saturday night, 16th October for an incredible concert to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Royal British Legion.
Featuring popular songs of World War II, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Millier Memories and other favourites conducted by the fantastic Captain David Cole, former Director of Music on the HMY Britannia. There are still a few tickets left. Book now here.
Classic opera in an intimate setting
St Thomas’s Church will be filled with music this Saturday, 16th October as three award-winning young classical singers impress audiences with their recital of art song and opera. Calm Before The Storm will see the performers from Hurn Court Opera combine operatic favourites such as Mozart's duet from Cosi fan Tutte, Soave sia il vento, and Wagner's Die Frist ist um from The Flying Dutchman with art song by Schumann, Bridge, Ireland and Elgar.
Hurn Court Opera is a charity set up to provide quality performance opportunities to selected young classical singers at start of their careers. Book now.
Friday night music is back!
We know it’s not technically an event over the weekend, but Friday Nights at the Arts Centre are back and we definitley thought it warranted a mention here!
The events are hugely popular, as audiences get to enjoy the Salisbury Arts Centre bar, food and live music from local talent. It’s the perfect night to get together with friends and family. Tonight, 15th October, the brilliant Deloreons will be entertaining the crowds. Other acts to come include The I's, a primarily skacoustic duo, and covers band, Break Cover.
