Dramatic performances at Salisbury Playhouse, entertainment in Queen Elizabeth Gardens and enthralling artistic exhibitions are just some of the events this weekend that will leave you full of inspiration.
Here are the What’s On highlights to experience in Salisbury over 18th and 19th September:
September in the Rain
John Godber’s funny and moving play had its opening night at Salisbury Playhouse earlier this week. Starring Ian Kelsey and Nicola Sloane, September in the Rain heads to 1950s Blackpool for a world of deckchairs, sandy sandwiches and stroppy donkeys! Audiences will follow the family through the years as they continue making the pilgrimage back to the seaside mecca. Running until 9th October. Book now!
People in the Park
Queen Elizabeth Gardens will come alive on Saturday 18th with music, talks, yoga, storytelling – and so much more! People in the Park is a community get-together from Salisbury Transition City. There will be 20 bands, 18 speakers, over 30 stalls, 2 eco-friendly stages and loads of entertainment. From 11am.
Car Boot Sunday
Whether you want to pick-up a bargain or sell some unwanted items, Salisbury’s next Car Boot Sunday is the place to be this weekend. Those wanting to sell can turn up in the Market Place from 7am - no need to book. Spaces are allocated on a first come basis. Buyers will be allowed on site from 9am, Sunday 19th September. Salisbury’s creativity shines out
There are plenty of options for art lovers in Salisbury this weekend.
Gallery 21 hosts its first major exhibition since the pandemic began in 2020. ‘Legacy of Legends’ brings together pieces from talented artist, Ben Jeffery. His new collection includes an homage to Daniel Craig's last performance as James Bond and an Elton John masterpiece inspired by his performance in Crocodile Rock. The exhibition launches on Saturday 18th September with a ‘Meet the Artist’ event where fans will be able to meet and chat with Ben – you can find more information about that here. The exhibition runs until the end of the month.
Vanner Gallery is new to Salisbury. This is their first weekend open and the first weekend for their brand new exhibition 'CONNECT: people, art and place'. This show focuses on the idea of connection as the world restarts after the Covid pandemic, and people emerge from living constrained and separate lives. Runs until 24th December.

Richard Chopping The Original Bond Artist - The Salisbury Museum celebrates the life and work of writer, illustrator and teacher Richard Chopping (1917 – 2008), best-known for illustrating the original book covers for James Bond.
Threads Through Creation - 12 huge embroidered panels that were made by Devon based textile artist Jacqui Parkinson in the beautiful setting of Salisbury Cathedral.
Young Gallery Members Exhibition - The annual Supporters exhibition for the Young Gallery which can be found above the library.
Makers’ Tale 2021 - An exhibition at Salisbury Art Centre that examines craft and making as a highly relevant component of contemporary life.
Local Encounters - Salisbury Group of Artists are exhibiting their paintings and artworks at Ted Heath's former home, Arundells.
