From drama to gardening and James Bond to donkeys, we have it all!
Here are the What’s On highlights to experience in Salisbury this weekend, 25th and 26th September:
Lost Souls at The Chapel
It was postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Loosely Based Theatre Company finally takes to the stage at The Chapel on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th September. Lost Souls is four short plays about the search for human (and other!) connections. It’s written by local playwright Jayne Woodhouse and directed by Calum Robshaw. Tickets are still available, with some also on the door.
September in the Rain
“A true masterpiece”... “laugh out loud” …. “pitch perfect”..... that’s what the critics are saying about John Godber’s September in the Rain which continues at Salisbury Playhouse this weekend. If you’re missing summer trips to the beach this is for you! The funny and moving play follows a young newly married couple in the 1950s, as they head to Blackpool for the first time. Follow their lives as they return to the beachside mecca each year to deal with deckchairs, sandy sandwiches and stroppy donkeys! Runs until 9th October.
Brilliant Bond
The excitement is building for James Bond fans, as the newest movie, No Time To Die, finally hits cinema screens this coming week. In preparation, head to Salisbury Museum for the perfect 007 inspired exhibition. Richard Chopping The Original Bond Artist celebrates the life and work of writer, illustrator and teacher Richard Chopping (1917 – 2008), who’s best-known for illustrating the original book covers for James Bond. The exhibition features some of the original working drawings for the books, including the striking skull design for Goldfinger. Runs until 3rd October.
Silver Salisbury continues
Silver Salisbury is a programme of events that runs every autumn across our modern medieval city in the lead up to Old People’s Day on 1st October. They’re aimed at giving older people the chance to meet, make new friends and learn new things. On Saturday 25th September, there will be an Allotments & Gardens Association Open Day giving information on growing, composting and pest control – as well as some tea and cake! Last Threads Through Creation
See it before it’s gone! This is the last weekend the colourful Threads Through Creation exhibition will be running at Salisbury Cathedral. There are 12 huge embroidered panels, some as large as 8ft by 11ft, hanging in the magnificent setting of the Cathedral. Each panel interpretates a verse from the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible that tells the creation story. They really add to the spectacle of the building. The exhibition ends on Sunday 26th September.
Charter Market – A Gap in the Market
The historic Charter Market returns to Salisbury Market Place this Saturday 8am to 3pm. The welcoming trade stalls offer a variety of fresh local produce and products. From food to clothes and flowers, you’ll find them here!
You can also find them in Nick Andrew’s exhibition: A Gap In The Market. Nick has used Salisbury’s market as inspiration for his current collection, focusing on the activity and movement of the city’s bustling heart. The exhibition at Fisherton Mill ends on Saturday 25th September.
