With a wealth of inviting cafes and tearooms, there is always time for tea in Salisbury.
Here are some we think you should try:
The historic ones
If you’re after a cuppa in spectacular surroundings, then head to Salisbury Cathedral’s Refectory. Sit under the glass roof and marvel at the towering spire as you enjoy some tea and cake.
Also, in the Cathedral Close is the Salisbury Museum cafe and Rifleman’s Table, which can be found next to The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum. Both, when the weather is good enough, offer outside seating with fantastic views of the Cathedral as well as brilliant food and drink.
Salisbury Arts Centre isn’t just a community hub for art, it’s also got a great cafe too. Situated in a picturesque renovated church and grounds, you can enjoy your food indoors or out, and take in the free exhibitions and installations during your visit too. And, because they are a non-profit Arts and Educational Charity, money spent in the cafe goes directly back in to creating creative arts opportunities across Wiltshire!
The new ones
The Salisbury Orangery on Crane Street may be housed in a beautifully renovated old Tudor building, but the cafe is relatively new and only opened in 2021. As well as cosy seating inside, you can sit out by the river.
Another cafe to open in 2021 was Sonder Coffee on the High Street. The independently run coffee shop has a quirky design and feel. And, alongside serving Extract Coffee and tasty treats, has now opened a co-working space for those who need a break from the home office.
Both are perfectly located for shopping, the Cathedral Close and walks through Queen Elizabeth Gardens.
The Market Place
Salisbury’s historic Market Place offers a range of independent cafes that are perfectly situated for anyone needing a break during a busy shopping trip. When the weather is good enough, make sure to sit outside and soak in the atmosphere and medieval architecture.
Stones Kitchen cafe offers freshly homemade food and cakes, with delicious (and rather large) scones! The award-winning Henderson's Artisan Bakery & Café make everything on site daily, using fresh local ingredients where possible. Pick-Up is a cafe inspired by Greece. Make sure to try their Greek Cheese Pies and tasty deserts. There is also Reeve the Baker which, alongside their tempting takeaway options, has a cafe on the first floor where you can enjoy their tasty treats and a hot drink to warm you through on a chilly winter day.
Vegan friendly
If you are looking for vegan options, make sure you try Greengages Coffeehouse on Catherine Street. They also offer a large range of delicious gluten free and dairy free meals and cakes, with all food prepared and cooked to order using locally sourced produce.
Well Natural on Queen Street is a health food store that also has a cafe. They have organic coffees, teas lattes and vegan and vegetarian food.
Fisherton Street
Culture Coffee on Fisherton Street serve their coffee on a beautiful tray, complete with glass of water and sweet treat! It’ll make you feel that little bit special.
You can pick up a bargain and stop for a snack at Fisherton Warehouse. As well as selling an eclectic collection of retro, antique and vintage items there is also a lovely cafe where you can grab great coffees, light lunches and delicious cakes, to take away or have in.
There are also shopping opportunities to be found at Fisherton Mill on Fisherton Street. Take some time to browse their shop and gallery before enjoying a treat in their welcoming cafe, which was voted Best Café in Wiltshire 2021 by Muddy Stilettos.
Just off Fisherton Street is The Maltings where you will find Arman's Turkish Handcrafted Shop, Wine & Coffee House. The colourful store offers Turkish handcrafted gifts and accessories alongside a wine and coffee house. So, when you finish your shopping you can take a break for baklava, Turkish coffee, Turkish Tea and more!
For those with a sweet tooth!
If the family needs a sugar fix after a morning of shopping, take a stop at Wafflemeister on the High Street. The Belgian Waffle house sells a range of handmade waffles and crepes (both sweet and savoury) incredible gelato, thickshakes, smoothies and fresh fruit juices.
