Salisbury in summer is a beautiful place – and it’s packed with fun too!
There’s a lot going on this week that will keep all ages entertained.
Live music, crazy croquet, a French market and a Festival of Archaeology – we have all this and more happening in our modern medieval city.
Here’s our rundown of events you won’t want to miss:
Things to do in Salisbury
The French Market returns to Salisbury market place on Wednesday and Thursday (20th and 21st July 2022). Whether you’re looking to pick up a few unique gifts, or to stock up your food cupboard, make sure you don’t miss it.

On the 22nd and 23rd July, Salisbury Live presents, Out & About. There will be a whole weekend of FREE live music at venues across the city. Find all the details by clicking here.
This week, internationally-renowned musician Anna Lapwood joins Salisbury Cathedral for a special classical concert as part of their 2022 Organ Festival. Limited tickets are still available for Saturday 23rd July at 7pm.
It’s going to be a fun weekend at Salisbury Racecourse. On Saturday 23rd July, there will be an evening of exciting racing and a DJ set from Radio One DJ Jordan North.
It’s going to get a little crazy in Salisbury’s Guildhall Square on Saturday! Fayre on the Square will return for the summer, with crazy croquet, table tennis, ice cream, a city garden bar and street food vendors. There’s something for the whole family!

If you’re a history buff, you’ll love the Festival of Archaeology at Salisbury Museum on 23rd and 24th July. The museum grounds will be full of fun and fascinating stands and entertainment from archaeology, history and living history experts.
Salisbury Fringe Theatre returns on Saturday 23rd July with a brand-new show, “Summer Shorts”, at The Pheasant Inn. They will be putting on another evening of funny, exciting short plays that showcase the writing, acting and directing talent that exists in and around the city.
There’s also the Stonehenge Kids' Dig and Summer Explorer Quest events for the little ones to enjoy. Take your budding archaeologists to the ancient Wiltshire stone circle to try their hand at unearthing the past in the special Stonehenge sandboxes. This one runs throughout the summer holidays from 23rd July.
The Salisbury Bear Hunt is also one to get the kids involved in during the school break. Keep a look out for 100 bears that have been hidden around the city and it could win you a prize!
Sports activities in Salisbury
If you’re looking for something a little bit more energetic this week, Salisbury has a lot to offer. There are the weekly Walking Football classes for over 50s that take place at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre each Monday, Thursday and Friday.
Salisbury Parkrun at Churchill Gardens
The popular Parkrun takes place at Churchill Gardens each weekend. The adult run takes place on Saturday and the youth session is on Sunday. There's also outdoor group yoga with Park Yoga Salisbury in the beautiful setting of Queen Elizabeth Gardens that’s open to all abilities each Sunday. Find all these are more by clicking here.
Exhibitions in Salisbury
Salisbury is a hub for creativity. We champion originality and you can see unique displays of art across the city this week and beyond.
The Grayson Perry exhibition at Salisbury Cathedral continues. The Vanity of Small Differences showcases six huge tapestries that all explore class. You do not need to book for this. The exhibition is included in standard cathedral entry.

At Salisbury Museum you can see two inspirational exhibitions. Hardy's Wessex The Landscapes That Inspired a Writer, is a major temporary exhibition about the life of Thomas Hardy, exploring his relationship with the area using literary sources, fashion, textiles and social history collections.
If you’re more interested in the life of bugs then you’ll love Insects Odyssey: Insects, Books and the Artistic Imagination! This exhibition sees 25 artists create new contemporary works based on old publications - some as far back as the 17th century.
At Salisbury Arts Centre until September is the Wiltshire Creative Summer Open Exhibition. Each year Wiltshire Creative issues an open call-out to artists in the southwest and this is the result. It’s a great way to see the talent we have in the region.
