Tucked away just a short walk from the High Street, Cafe Diwali has been delighting foodies and tantalising taste buds since it opened in 2016. Founded by Rasheed, a seasoned chef with a lifetime of experience, this much-loved eatery offers a unique dining experience and brings the vibrant flavours of Indian street food to Salisbury.
From the moment you step through the door into the brightly coloured restaurant, you're greeted by the enticing smell of spices from the kitchen. Rasheed is passionate about serving authentic Indian dishes, prepared and presented in a way that transports you to the bustling streets of India. Dishes on the current menu include delicious thalis, dosas, flavourful biryanis, aromatic curries and tandoori specials. There is also a selection of Indian desserts, a children's menu and the option to takeaway. The menu changes every few months which not only gives returning customers something to look forward to but also gives Rasheed the opportunity to showcase his culinary creativity.
Cafe Diwali are able to cater for a wide range of dietary requirements and include many dishes on their menu that are suitable for vegans. This includes their popular vegan thali platter (aubergines simmered in a tangy tamarind gravy, infused with spices and served with rice, vegetable dal, pickles and naan or papad).
Rasheed sources much of his produce locally including meat, fish and vegetables. The many different spices come from London and this combination of local produce with the distinct and authentic spices creates food that you won't be forgetting in a hurry.
Since opening eight years ago, Cafe Diwali has won multiple awards both locally and nationally - their dedication to authentic flavours and high-quality dishes has earned them recognition at events such as the Asian Curry Awards and the British Curry Awards. These accolades are a testament to Rasheed's talent as a chef and his commitment to delivering the best Indian street food experience possible.
