There are few pleasures in life more satisfying than a sticky, sweet, freshly-baked pastry. Our Saturday Spotlight this week is one that will surely get your stomach rumbling.
Hendersonâs is an artisan bakery and cafĂ© on the Market Square where they produce everything from scratch. You will see the team working away behind the counter creating tasty treats for you to enjoy with a cup of their fantastic coffee, either sitting inside, outside or to take away.
Paul Henderson, the man behind the business, started the bakery back in 2013 and has established a much-loved eatery in the heart of the city. Having previously worked in books, he found the book world struggling in the digital age and decided to turn his hand to the traditional craft of baking, as he says âyou canât digitise bread or coffeeâ!
Everything you see on the counter is baked on-site using local ingredients and organic flours. Choose from traditional loaves including white, wholemeal and rye (their sourdough is particularly popular) or try one of their speciality breads such as focaccia or ciabatta. If youâre stopping for lunch youâll find a selection of sandwiches, quiches, paninis and salads. Fancy something sweet? The tempting display of pastries include cinnamon buns, pain aux raisin, croissants and pain au chocolat as well as cakes such as brownies, carrot cake, tiffin, flapjacks and more. Breads, pastries and cakes can all be ordered in advance, just place your order through their website and collect them when theyâre ready.
Hendersonâs pride themselves in providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for their customers and they have a hard-working team that fly the flag for great service.
