The Vanner Gallery

📍  45 High Street, SP1 2PB

The Vanner Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of Salisbury. Located on the High Street just outside the main entrance to the Cathedral close, it offers regular exhibitions of work by established and emerging artists.

The gallery was opened by its Director, David Christie, in September 2021. Highlights in that time include a show of late works by the great British painter John Blackburn and a collaborative show by David Shillinglaw and Lily Mixe, the world-renowned artists behind the fantastic mural on Fisherton Street.

One of the more recent additions to the independent business scene in Salisbury, they've quickly established themselves as a key player in the art world both locally and nationally.

David has always had a love for art and it was this passion that drove him to establish The Vanner Gallery, not just as a business venture but as a contribution to Salisbury's cultural offering. His mission is to bring artwork to Salisbury by artists who might not ordinarily showcase their work here, enriching the local art scene and giving visitors the opportunity to experience a diverse range of artistic pieces.

With a keen eye for talent, David travels to shows and exhibitions to seek out artists whose work he feels would resonate with the gallery's ethos. The Vanner Gallery shows around eight shows per year, each one thoughtfully curated and part of a cohesive and compelling programme. Having built up a wide network of contacts in the industry, you can expect to see a mix of UK-based and international artists at the gallery.

What sets The Vanner Gallery apart is David's genuine enthusiasm for sharing art with the public. His focus is on showing work that he loves himself in the hope that visitors will find the same joy and inspiration in them. He also works annually as part of the judging team on the acclaimed Graduate Art Show, bringing a specially-curated version of the show right here to Salisbury every year showcasing the most exciting up-and-coming artists.

Whether you're a seasoned art enthusiast or a curious passerby, stepping through the yellow gallery door is an invitation to discover, enjoy and be inspired by the work that David has so thoughtfully brought to Salisbury.

The gallery’s current show ‘the mixtape’ runs until 14 September and features twenty-four artists. Make sure to visit and take a look!
