đ 3-5 Minster Street, Salisbury, SP1 1TB
One of Salisburyâs oldest businesses, W Carter & Son is a jewellery and watch shop which opened for business in 1817. Based in Minster Street (home to other historical sites such as The Haunch of Venison and The Poultry Cross) you could be forgiven for thinking youâve stepped back in time when you visit this part of Salisbury.
Established by William Carter at the beginning of the 19th Century, the shopâs rich history is marked by generations of ownership and management that are intricately linked to the original Carter family. Now run by Pauline and Sebastian (pictured), they remain committed to preserving the old-fashioned charm and exceptional service that has been at the forefront of the businesses success for over two centuries.
The offerings at W Carter & Son are so diverse, from a stunning array of new and vintage jewellery to fine watches, crystal and silverware. They also specialise in clock and watch repairs, silver repairs and have an engraving service. Need something entirely unique? W Carter & Son offer a bespoke service, working with you to produce something special just for you. Theyâll guide you through the entire process from design to aftercare and their skilled team will bring your vision to life.
For at least fifty years, the team here have proudly taken care of the City of Salisburyâs silverware and provide engraving, repairs and presentation items for the armed forces. Notably, they had the honour of crafting a bespoke brooch for the Duchess of Edinburgh, a testament to their craftsmanship and reputation.
Step inside this wonderful part of Salisburyâs history and be transported to another time, admire the exquisite pieces in the shop and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of times gone by. Make sure you take a look at one of their remarkable historical features - a regulator clock dating back to the early 1800s, a piece that not only serves as a keeper of time but also stands as a symbol of the enduring legacy of William Carter.
